Ukrainian Holidays
There are dates and events in the life
of our country that are memorable to
every Ukrainian citizen.
The dates of this kind are: the Victory
Day, the May Day, the Constitution
Day, the Women’s Day, the
Independence Day.
These are national holidays, people
do not work on these days.
The most memorable date is the Victory
Day which is kept on the 9th of May.
On this Day we celebrate the anniver
sary of the victory over fascism in
World War II.
The Women’s Day, which is celebrated
on the 8th of March, is like Mother’s
Day in Great Britain.
On this day you can see many men
buying or carrying flowers.
Children give their mothers presents,
or send them postcards if they are
away from home. Recently new national holidays have
appeared.
They are of religious origin.
Українські свята
У житті нашої країни є дати і події,
пам’ятні всім громадянам України. Це наступні дати: День Перемоги,
1 Травня, День Конституції, Міжна
родний жіночий день, День неза
лежності.
Це національні свята, і люди в цей
день не працюють.
Найбільш пам’ятна дата — це День
Перемоги, що відзначають 9 травня.
У цей день ми святкуємо річницю
перемоги над фашизмом у Другій
світовій війні.
Міжнародний жіночий день, що
відзначається 8 березня, схожий на
день Матері у Великобританії.
У цей день можна побачити чолові
ків, що купують чи несуть квіти.
Діти дарують мамам подарунки
чи посилають листівки, якщо
вони знаходяться далеко від до
мівки.
Недавно були введені нові націо
нальні свята.
Вони релігійного походження.
They are: Christmas and Easter.
In Ukraine Christmas is celebrated on
the 7th of January.
In Europe and in the USA it is
celebrated on the 25th of December.
On Christmas people celebrate the
birth of Jesus Christ.
Easter symbolizes the Resurrection of
Jesus Christ.
Children like this holiday for traditional
brightly painted eggs and special
Easter cakes.
Easter cakes are sold at every bakery,
but homemade ones are always
much tastier. There is one more holiday which is
loved by everybody: children and
adults.
This is New Year’s Eve.
People decorate New Year trees
with toys and lights and believe that
a miracle is a must on this day.
On the New Year night people go to
dance, visit their friends or stay at
home and watch TV. It’s my favourite holiday.
And, of course, one of the
main holidays of Ukraine is the
Independence Day, celebrated on the
24th of August.
On this day in 1991 the “Act of
Independence of Ukraine” was
proclaimed.

Різдво в Україні відзначають 7 січня. У Європі й Америці його святкують
25 грудня.
На Різдво люди відзначають наро
дження Ісуса Христа.
Великдень символізує воскресіння
Ісуса Христа.
Дітям подобається це свято через
традиційно яскраво розфарбовані
яйця й особливо великодні паски.
Паски продаються в кожній
булочній, але завжди смачніші
паски домашнього
приготування.
Є ще одне свято, яке люблять усі:
діти і дорослі. Це Новий рік.
Люди прикрашають новорічні ялинки
іграшками і гірляндами і вірять, що
в цей день повинно відбутися чудо.
У новорічну ніч люди йдуть потан
цювати, відвідати своїх друзів чи
залишаються вдома і дивляться
телевізор.
Це моє улюблене свято.
І, звичайно, одне з головних свят
України — День незалежності, що
відзначається 24 серпня. У цей день 1991 року була прого
лошена Декларація незалежності
України.
